Making a Pointed Tip Bolt

Making a Pointed Tip Bolt

There are several componenets to make when building the PASK Makes jig for handles. One of them is taking some bolts, chucking it up in a drill, and using a grider or sander to make a pointy tip.

Making a pointed tip bolt - for PASK makes jig

One of the steps for making the PASK Makes handle jig, is to take two bolts, chuck them up in a drill and then use a grinder or sander to make a pointed tip.

I found that if you just chuck up the bolt, more often then not it is not centered in the drill, and when engaging the drill it wobbles. I then tried running a nut all the way down from the tip to the head and chucking that up. I was successful with that one time, then second attempt resulted in an off center tip.

By seating the head all the way down in the drill and having the bolt further down the shaft to connect more with the tips of the chuck, you get a more centered bolt in the drill chuck. Then when grinding to can ensure a more centered tip on the bolt.

Happy making.
